      The current COVID-19 pandemic is unprecedented, and it can be easy for affiliate leaders to become overwhelmed. This document will assist affiliate leaders in identifying the most important issues facing our members and provide the informational resources needed to lobby local, state and provincial officials to ensure best practices are in place. If you have additional questions or need further assistance, contact your District Vice President.

      The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institutes for Occupational Health and Safety have updated the Ryan White Act to include COVID-19.  Hospitals are now mandated to notify emergency response employees of any exposure to positive COVID-19 patient.  

      Also, FEMA/Health and Human Services Healthcare Resilience Task Force has established the fire/EMS agencies are at the same level of priority for PPE as hospitals, healthcare facilities and workers.  See this guidance for resubmitting supplies.

      The City of White Plains officially implemented a back to work policy(below).The CDC recommends that you have to be free of fever and other symptoms for 72 hours straight and have the option of 2 negative tests 24 hours apart.The city part leaves that out.With the shortage of tests,it is hard enough to get one test.Use common sense,if you dont feel well,stay home.

      Just before 4:40 on Sunday March 22nd, Local members responded to a working residential fire in the 400 block of Maplehurst Drive in Unincorporated Douglas County. Initial reports stated a garage was on fire with heavy brown and gray smoke showing. Safety 18 arrived on scene and confirmed this was a working fire in a single carport attached garage to the house.

Gerry was a member of Local 718 working at Fire Alarm construction for over 35 years. Gerry was also the General Manager of Florian Hall for many years. A dedicated member of Local 718, also a dedicated employee of Florian Hall.

      At 4:34 p.m. on Friday, March 20, 2020, Local members responded to Northampton Court in Highlands Ranch after a 911 caller reported a fire inside the house. First arriving units from Station 18 found no signs of smoke or fire visible from the street when they arrived. Upon further investigation they found one person with minor injuries and smoke inside the home.
