      • Rachel’s current position is Fire Prevention Specialist. She has been with the Meridian Fire Department, City of Meridian since February, 2006. 
      • Rachel has worked with municipal budgets, general ledgers, and municipal payroll systems.
      • Rachel is currently a member of the City of Meridian Employee Council, the Lauderdale County Council on Aging, and the Mississippi Association of Public Fire Safety Educators.

      January 20, 2021 Emeritus status is an honorary designation conferred upon a member to recognize their contributions and accomplishments over their careers. During last night’s Local 2687 monthly meeting (1/19/21), Past President Kurt Vogt was unanimously voted to Emeritus status. Kurt has been heavily involved with union activities for the better part of 20 years.

      It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of retired Captain Michael Horn. Captain Horn passed away on January 17th, 2021 after a brief battle with illness. Mike was hired by The City of Canton on April 24,1989 and was promoted to the rank of Captain on April, 13th 2002. Prior to being hired with CFD, he served in the United States Air Force.

Art passed away on December 23, 2020 at the age of 98.

      At 4:10 p.m. on Saturday December 26, 2020, Local 2086 and 1309 members responded to a house fire on W. Maplewood Drive in Unincorporated Jefferson County. A large black plume of smoke on scene could be seen from miles away. When Battalion Chief 1 arrived, he found heavy fire conditions in the garage extending to two vehicles parked in the driveway and threatening the rest of the home.
